To celebrate my Dad's 50th we had a weekend down to London. The temperature was well over thirty degrees during the two days we were there, but we couldn't have asked for more perfect weather.
On the Saturday evening we were attend a production of the Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium, which starred the winner of a BBC program to find the lead role for the musical, alongside Michael Crawford.
The show as you can imagine was mindblowing, the best of musicals I've ever seen, as the stage shifted and spun, seamlessly switching from one scene to the next. It really is something you have to see to believe, but this doesn't dominate any of the top class performances.
On the Sunday we took a ride on the London Eye, which was bloody high. Because of the gorgeous weather we were priviledged to have clear views across the city skyline (we could even see the arch over Wembley Stadium).
From there we wandered around the centre, past the Houses of Parliament, up to 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, The Mall and up to Buckingham Palace where I small parading of the guards was timed perfectly once we were there. From here we wandered back, returning to Trafalgar Square, Regent Street, Oxford Street and the bohemian Carnaby Street, which is home to probably the coolest shops on the planet.
For lunch we stopped off at a hidden gem nestled in the Carnaby Street area - Mother's Mash, which was probably one of the best sausage and mash dinners I have ever had! Oh words can't deliver how nice it was, I felt like Oliver Twist when singing hot sausage and mustard.
And that was just about the end of our trip, as we strolled back to the Millenium Eye on the southbank, and then the 5 hour drive home!
